Languages Other Than English (LOTE)
Indonesian is the Asian language taught at Monivae College.
Year 7 (EXCEL)
Students entering Year 7 study Indonesian. At this level LOTE is a study of language and culture.

Year 8 (LINCS)
Year 8 Students continue their studies from Year 7 however, those needing assistance with literacy may be eligible for a language development class in Year 8 instead of studying LOTE.

Year 9 & 10
Students may continue with Indonesian but it is however not compulsory in the Middle School. In the study of Indonesian language and culture, students will focus on gaining mastery of basic communication skills in the speaking, reading, writing and listening components of the Indonesian language.

Year 11 & 12 (VCE)
Students must have had three years of continuous study of Indonesian to study this subject in VCE. The study of a language other than English contributes to the overall education of students, most particularly in the area of communication, but also in the areas of cross-cultural understanding, cognitive development, literacy and general knowledge. It provides access to the culture of communities which use the language and promotes understanding of different attitudes and values within the wider Australian community and beyond.
Distance Education
Languages not included in the college curriculum can be studied by distance education with the Victorian School of Languages.
