Herald Sun Shield 1st XVIII

On the 10th of May, Monivae welcomed Baimbridge College and Portland Secondary College for the South West region Herald-Sun Shield. In the frst game Monivae played Baimbridge, it was a well fought out game, with unselfsh play using the ball well saw us come out on top. The backline defended well, with Ben Noske hardly letting one through the sticks, and Jock Cleary rebounded well across half-back. Brody Fishwick dominated every clearance with accurate disposals, which gave the forward line every opportunity.
Final scores for the game:
Monivae 8.6. 54 defeated
Baimbridge 3.4. 22

Monivae then played Portland who were a much bigger side, again Monivae came out on top however, the scoreboard was
not a fair indicator at the end of the game. Jarrod O'Brien and Sam Beavis were great in defense, Roger Morris provided plenty of run, and set up a lot of play
through the middle. Final scores:
Monivae 12.6. 78 defeated
Portland 4.7. 31

Herald-Sun Shield Final

Stawell Secondary College progressed from the Wimmera region and the two sides played in typical grand fnal spirit. The footy was clean and hard with Monivae holding a slender lead until midway through the last quarter where Stawell managed to sneak in front. Fortunately a late goal got us back the lead and a few minutes later the siren blew to make it two grand fnal wins in a row for the Monivae 1st XVIII. Roger Morris was awarded the best on ground medallion for a blistering game out on the wing. Jeremy Kealy had a huge opponent in the ruck, who he managed to get on top of. Steven Craig was creative
up forward kicking a couple of goals and Jayson Bensch was his typical aggressive self. The defense was held together well by Ben Noske, Jock Cleary and Nick McMahon.
The overall Monivae player of the year was awarded to the team captain Jeremy Kealy. Jeremy controlled his position
throughout both days of competition and also led the team with intensity and professionalism.
